Welcome to the World Shotokan Karate-do Federation Australia
We are a non-profit organisation whose primary aim is the development of a dynamic, traditional style of Japanese Shotokan karate. Karate is a wonderful way to achieve more than you ever thought you could....both physically and mentally ... for all ages.
Physical fitness, a general health improvement and weight loss are some of the side benefits as well, karate is a great way to gain a greater self confidence whilst learning a superior system of self defence.
Karate is ideal for a child's development and most of our clubs offer classes for children. In some cases, we also offer women's only classes and as a member of the government sponsored Australian Karate Federation (AKF), we can also offer a pathway to the competition side of karate.
We must say, however, that our karate is not something that can be mastered overnight. It's not a fad ... we teach true, mainstream Japanese karate that follows all the traditional ethics and philosophies of our Japanese karate-do forefathers. So if you want a black belt in 12 months (as is so often promised nowadays), or want to become a vicious streetfighter, please look elsewhere
