Welcome to the World Shotokan Karate-do Federation Australia
We are a non-profit organisation whose primary aim is the development of a dynamic, traditional style of Japanese Shotokan karate. Karate is a wonderful way to achieve more than you thought you could....both physically and mentally.
Physical fitness, a general health improvement and weight loss are some of the side benefits as well, karate is a great way to gain a greater self confidence whilst learning a superior system of self defence.
Karate is ideal for a child's development and most of our clubs offer classes for children. In some cases, we also offer women's only classes and as a member of the government sponsored Australian Karate Federation (AKF), we can also offer a pathway to the competition side of karate.
We must say, however, that our karate is not something that can be mastered overnight. It's not a fad ... we teach true, mainstream Japanese karate that follows all the traditional ethics and philosophies of our Japanese karate-do forefathers. So if you want a black belt in 12 months (as is so often promised nowadays), or want to become a vicious streetfighter, please look elsewhere.
CLOTHING We have now added our first 2 items of paraphenalia in the form of printed calico bags and WSKF long sleeved t-shirts. These can be seen under "Our Products".
JAPAN 2009 The International Seminar and WSKF World Championships will be in Tokyo Japan in August 2009 so Australian members ... book your holidays!See "Latest News" for details of the dates for this event.
