Whilst, in our normal training, we follow a more ‘traditional’ teaching of karate-do, we also believe there is a time and place for a contemporary, competition based brand of karate.  Competition style of karate can be different to normal karate training as there is a codified set of rules and procedures to follow.  Having said all that, however, at World Shotokan we encourage all our students to enter into competitive karate at some stage.  It gives one a slightly different perspective on karate and is a great adjunct to normal training.  We are a member of the government sponsored Australian Karate Federation (AKF) and have regular representation in AKF authorised tournamants throughout the year.  A pathway exists to become a member of the state, and ultimately, national karate team should that area be of interest  to you.
