WELL DONE GILES! Giles Snedker of Doubleview dojo was, on Wednesday 16th December, graded to Shodan (1st Dan). We all congratulate Giles as we know, with the few physical issues he's had to overcome, it hasn't always been easy and we hope to have a detailed interview with Giles early in 2010. So well done Giles from all of us in WSKF.
OUR NEWEST NIDAN (2nd Dan Black Belt) Also, well done to Heinz De Chelard (Hamilton Victoria dojo) upon attaining Nidan during a recent visit by Sensei Howard Mutton to the Portland / Hamilton dojos in October. Heinz received his Shodan in Japan in 2007 and since then has been training hard, as well as teaching, at the Hamilton dojo. For a post-grading pic of Heinz with Sensei Mutton, go HERE.
CONGRATULATIONS! A warm congratulations to Sensei Michael Looke from our Springfield (Qld) dojo. Michael came 3rd place in the Veteran's Jyu Kumite event at the WSKF World Championships in Tokyo, held on the 15th & 16th August this year. The Veteran's jyu kumite events tend to be one of the most gruelling of the championships and this year was no exception. Michael fought through a number of competitors to eventually defeat an opponent from Venezuala in the battle for 3rd place.
In WSKF, the Jyu Kumite (free fighting) event differs from point scoring events in that the competitors fight continually for 3 minutes after which a judges decision is given. The victor determined by precision and effectiveness of techniques and general fighting ability. Sensei Looke succeeded and gave Australia it's first Championship medal ever! Well done Michael!
